Little Miss Rules
- PLAYING FIELD
- The distance between the
pitcher’s rubber and home plate shall be thirty-five (35) feet.
Distance between bases shall be sixty (60) feet.
- The pitcher’s circle shall be an
eight (8) foot radius circle with the pitcher’s rubber squarely
in the center.
- There will be a ten (10) foot
arc from home plate (for the tee only), extending from the first
base line to the third base line that will be used to indicate
fair ball in play when using the tee.
- Chalking requirements: Foul
line, pitcher's circle, batter’s box, fair ball arc, and
two-thirds mark between first base and home plate. Half way
marks between second base and third base, and between third base
and home plate. Home team is required to chalk the field.
Visiting team is required to rake the field after the game.
- Little Miss will use an eleven
(11) inch lncrediball softball, or other comparable brand, for
play.
- PLAYING RULES
- A fully played game in Little
Miss shall be five (5) innings or one (1) hour and fifteen (15)
minutes. Three (3) outs or 5 runs scored constitutes an inning
at bat. Play shall continue after the fifth run scores until
the pitcher stops the play. Only five (5) runs will score.
- Three (3) innings constitutes a
regulation game.
- When a game is called in the
middle of an inning, after the third inning, due to inclement
weather or any other unforeseen circumstances, the score for the
game will be that of the last completed inning of play. If in
the event of a tie game at the end of one (1) hour and fifteen
(15) minutes, another inning will be allowed to break the tie.
No new inning shall be started after one (1) hour and fifteen
(15) minutes unless tied, but an inning started within that time
shall be completed.
- All play will be from a tee.
The batter will only have three swings to put the ball into
play.
- Play is stopped when the
ball is returned to the pitcher with both feet in the
pitcher’s circle and the pitcher has control of the ball.
All base runners who have advanced at least half-way to the
next base are entitled to advance to that base; otherwise,
the base runner must return to the last legally touched base
unless forced to advance. It will be the umpire’s judgment
as to whether the pitcher is returning to the circle to stop
play, or merely passing through the circle while making a
play.
- Once the batter hits a fair
ball, and until the ball is declared dead, normal softball rules
apply.
- If a batted ball is hit directly
to the pitcher in the pitcher’s circle, it may be relayed for
additional outs, if in the judgment of the umpire, the pitcher
does not hold the ball to stop play.
- All base runners must be on the
base when the ball is hit or until the ball passes the plate.
- Overthrow Rule: Any attempt
from an infielder to throw the ball to first base on the first
play after the ball is hit shall put this rule into effect. Any
batter/runner that has not yet reached first base or that has
reached first but has not reached the halfway mark to second
base shall be stopped at first base providing the out is not
made. All other runners advance at their own risk but shall be
limited to one (1) base when the overthrow rule is in effect.
The Overthrow Rule shall not apply if the batter/runner has
reached first base and is at least halfway to second base before
the attempt to first base is made.
- Player-pitcher shall have at
least one foot in the pitcher’s circle directly behind the
pitching rubber when the batter bats.
- Until the ball is hit, all
infielders, other than the catcher and first base man (*see K
BELOW), must remain behind an imaginary line thirty feet
(30) from home and first, and home and third, through the center
of the pitcher’s circle. EFFECT OF RULE: Illegal pitch
and runner(s) take next base.
- No batter who put the ball in
play can be tagged out going to first base or be called out by
tagging the first base except by the first base man. However,
the first base man must remain behind the two-thirds mark until
the ball is put into play.
- The defensive player/pitcher may
stand in the back half of the pitching circle. She may not move
from the back half of the circle until the ball is hit. With
the exception of the catcher, no defensive player may be closer
than thirty (30) feet from the batter until the ball has been
hit. The outfielders will remain behind the baseline until the
ball has been hit. Violation of this rule will allow the
offensive coach to take the resulting play or advance the batter
to first base ("Hit ball" means fair or foul.)
- Should more than one runner be
running to the same base, the rear runner will be sent back to
the base she was running from.
- GENERAL REMARKS
- Before each game, the team
coaches will submit the batting order to the scorekeeper. Each
team will bat their entire roster.
- A player who has regularly
attended practice and team meetings and appears in time in
uniform for a game must play the entire game offensively and
defensively. Coaches must notify the Little Miss Supervisor of
any child not fully participating.
- A maximum number of six (6)
players, including the catcher, are allowed in the infield. All
other players must remain behind the base line until the ball is
hit. If no catcher is being used, only five (5) players may be
in the infield until the ball is hit.
- A team may play with five (5)
players from its own team roster and only one (1) pick-up is
allowed. Pick-up players must play right field and bat last.
If a team has less than five (5) players from its own roster,
then that team forfeits the game.
- Use of a player/catcher is
optional at the coach’s discretion. If no catcher/player is
used, the defensive team must supply a coach/catcher for
retrieval of pitches.
- If a girl refuses to bat at her
official time, she is out.
- Stealing is not allowed.
- Bunting is not allowed.
- Soccer type kneepads are
allowed.

and third base.
