BASEBALL FAQ
What is the time commitment?
The amount of practices depends on your coach. In the Spring season, most teams practice twice a week and play one game per week. There is a maximum of four (4) team gatherings (practices or games) per week.
Can my child play with his or her friends?
Not necessarily. The best way to ensure that your child is on a team with other kids they want to play with is to sign up to coach a team. Each head coach is allowed three “contract players” who are automatically on the team without having to try out. That is the only way to guarantee they play together. Everyone else goes into the draft and can be selected by any team.
Can we sign up and then quit if we don’t like it?
While there is nothing we can do if you decide to quit, understand that doing so will put your child’s team, the coach and all of those other kids in a bad spot. To maximize everyone’s playing time and avoid kids sitting on the bench too much, we don’t put a lot of extra kids on rosters. That means if your child quits, you will be forcing the team to play shorthanded or even have to forfeit games if they can’t field a team. We also encourage parents to use sports to teach their children about being part of a team and following through on their commitments.
In other words, please don’t sign up if you don’t plan to play the full season. We will not refund your registration fee if you drop out after registration closes.
How do games and practices work?
All T-ball, Pee Wee, Majors, and Minors division games are held at Oaks Dads' Club at Rhythm Energy Park located: 3410 E. TC Jester Blvd (near the intersection of 34th and E. TC Jester)
Pony division games are held at the ODC Candlelight Fields located at 6500 Rena St.
Game schedules are determined after registration closes, and preliminary practices have begun. Your team manager/coach will communicate your team's schedule as soon as it is available, along with any other remaining details. After your first practice, your coach will be your main point of contact.
Practice locations vary and will be communicated to you by your coach before the season begins. The practices will be held on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday, depending on the preference and availability of the coach. We will try to accommodate requests for practice nights, but we cannot guarantee them.
Can I help coach?
Yes. We know from past league surveys that the biggest factor in whether a child enjoys their baseball experience is the coach. We are always looking for motivated and dedicated volunteer coaches. If you are interested in coaching you can indicate your interest during the registration process or send a separate email to baseballodc@gmail.com.
What does my child need?
Uniforms-In the Spring, ODC provides the jersey, hat, belt, and socks. You will be responsible for the pants (color will be decided by your coach). In the Fall, ODC provides the jersey and hat. You will be responsible for the pants, belt, and socks (color will be decided by your coach).
Gear- You will need a glove, batting helmet, cleats and a bat. The glove should be worn on the hand opposite of their throwing hand. If your child has never played before, we encourage you to let them test a few bats at practice before purchasing one.
